At the August 21, 2023 Newton Town Council meeting, Deputy Mayor Couce presented the Governing Body's proclamation to Mrs. Rosalie Monaco naming her 2023 Senior Citizen of the Year.

Rosalie Monaco
WHEREAS, Rosalie Monaco was born in Motta D’ Affermo, Sicily on January 28, 1941, and is the daughter of Pietro and Anna LaMonaca. She lived in Sicily until she, along with her parents and 2 sisters and 1 brother immigrated to the United States, eventually settling in the Bronx, New York; and
WHEREAS, On October 31, 1964, Rosalie married Joseph Monaco, and they settled in Clifton, NJ. A few years later, they moved to Newton with their son, Joseph, where they raised another son, Michael, and daughter, Janet. Rosalie also enjoys spending time with her grandson and two granddaughters; and
WHEREAS, while enjoying raising her children, being a loving grandmother, mother and wife, Rosalie has been a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and was a long-time employee of Acme Markets in Newton; and
WHEREAS, Rosalie a volunteers at the Beehive Thrift Shop (Newton Medical Center Auxiliary) and is an active member of Newton’s Prime Time Seniors group. Rosalie is often seen walking around town, smiling and waving to people that she sees along the way;
NOW THEREFORE, WE, the Mayor and Town Council of the Town of Newton, hereby proclaim our appreciation and gratitude to Rosalie Monaco, for exemplifying the vital role that senior citizens play within their community. In recognition of commitment to community, and most of all her spirit and dedication to the Town, we hereby name Rosalie Monaco:
