Departments - Municipal Clerk
The Municipal Clerk is entrusted with numerous and diverse duties under both State law and local ordinances. The Municipal Clerk serves as secretary to the Governing Body, secretary to the Municipal Corporation, Election Official (under Title 19), and Administrative Official at the municipal government level.

The Municipal Clerk's office issues various licenses & permits under state statute and local ordinances. These licenses include: Liquor Licenses, Garage Sale, Raffles, and Dog and Cat licenses; permits include: Fishing (Morris Lake), Sidewalk and Street opening, Solicitors and Trailer Park. Lorraine A. Read, RMC, CMR, serves as Municipal Clerk and Registrar of Vital Statistics since July of 1996. Irene O'Connor, CMR, serves as Deputy Municipal Clerk and Deputy Registrar of Vital Statistics.

Departments - Registrar of Vital Statistics

It is the responsibility of the Registrar of Vital Statistics to record all births, deaths and marriages occurring within the Town of Newton. The accumulation of information from vital records provides data about the events that occur throughout the entire State of New Jersey. In addition, the Registrar is also responsible for issuing burial permits, disinterment permits, transit permits, as well as marriage licenses, marriage certificates, birth certificates and death certificates.

Monday-Thursday: 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Friday: 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.

2008 Final and 2009 Preliminary Tax Bills were mailed on Wednesday, July 23, 2008.
The 3rd quarter 2008 (8/1/2008) must be received by August 19, 2008. After which, it will be deemed delinquent with interest accruing from August 1, 2008.
