The Newton Municipal Court offers payment of your tickets thru the New Jersey Municipal Courts Direct web site. For On-line Payments options, please log-on to www.njmcdirect.com. The Newton Court Code is 1915.

The Newton Municipal Court was created by the adoption of the New Constitution of the State of New Jersey, and was founded in 1947. The Municipal Court falls under the jurisdiction of the State Administrative Office of the Court (AOC), supervised by Assignment Judge B. Theodore Bozonelis, JSC, of the Superior Court of Morristown. The AOC audits Court activities and procedures, and requires that Municipal Court staff members prepare and submit reports to be used as the basis for the Annual Comparison Statistical Report, which is issued by the AOC.

Ann M. Rosellen serves as Court Administrator and Tania Ell holds the position of Deputy Court Administrator Bi-lingual. Other members of the Municipal Court staff include the Judge, the honorable John E. Mulhern, JMC; and the Municipal Prosecutor, Victor R. Jusino, Esq. Colleen Cunningham, Esq. serves as Public Defender and represents indigent defendants who face the possibility of incarceration or loss of driving privileges as a result of a guilty find by the Municipal Court. The fee for the Public Defender ranges from $50.00 to $200.00. Daniel Colfax, Esq. is our Conflict Public Defender.

The Municipal Court holds regular sessions on the second and fourth Tuesday evenings each month at 6:00 p.m. These night sessions provide defendants with an opportunity to receive their rights and enter their pleas. Trials are conducted every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. All sessions of the Newton Municipal Court are open to the public. Use of a statewide computer system gives Court personnel access to a wide variety of information about outstanding active warrants against defendants, outstanding fines owed to a Court, and records pertaining to suspension of driving privileges.
