Departments - Planning Board
The Town of Newton Planning Board was established in 1976 in accordance with section 40:55D of the New Jersey Municipal Land Use Law (MLUL). The Board consists of seven regular members, and one alternate member, and meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 7:30 P.M. Three of the Board members who participate on a regular basis in the decision making process are municipal officials; i.e., the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Town Manager.

One of the many responsibilities of the Planning Board is to adopt a Master Plan for the physical development of the Town. The Board also hears a multitude of applications such as those for a conditional use, "c"variance, site plan, and subdivision. All regular meetings and special meetings are open to the public. Notice of hearing is provided by the applicant and can be found in the New Jersey Herald or the Sunday New Jersey Herald, the official newspaper of record.

Responsibilities of the Board Administrator include, but are not limited to, guiding applicants through the application process, considering applications for completeness, reviewing site plan waiver requests, maintenance of escrow accounts, and preparation for monthly meetings.
