Departments - Zoning Board of Adjustment
The Town of Newton Zoning Board of Adjustment was established in 1976 in accordance with section 40:55D of the New Jersey Municipal Land Use Law (MLUL). The Board is composed of seven regular members, and one alternate member, and meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:30 P.M.

The Zoning Board of Adjustment has the power to interpret the zoning ordinance, which was modeled after the MLUL. The Board also considers petitions for relief from the restrictions imposed by Town ordinance, applications for appeal, interpretation requests, and variance applications. All regular meetings and special meetings are open to the public. Notice of application to the Board is provided by the applicant and can be found in the official newspaper of record, the New Jersey Herald or the Sunday New Jersey Herald.

Responsibilities of the Zoning Board Administrator are parallel to those of the Planning Board Administrator.
