Members
The Shade Tree Commission has five members that are each appointed to a five-year term by the Town Council.

Kenneth Jaekel, Director of Public Works, is the secretary to the Commission.

Responsibilities
In 1998, the Town Council created the Advisory Shade Tree Commission, which is responsible for recommending ordinances that pertain to the regulation and control of shade and ornamental trees. The Commission has also reviewed landscaping plans for various site plan projects proposed by the Town of Newton.
