Our next regular Town Council meeting (in person and via Zoom – Hybrid Regular Meeting) is Monday, February 26, 2024, beginning at 7:00pm. The Budget Meeting will start at 5:00pm and will also continue after the Regular meeting is adjourned.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

The Clerk’s office has prepared for consideration and approval the minutes from the February 12, 2024 – Regular Meeting.

                          

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

This is for those that wish to address the Town Council but do not plan to stay for the whole meeting. There is a note to the public on the agenda to please keep their comments to a maximum of 3 minutes and limited to one turn at the microphone. This allows ample time for all who wish to speak and keeps the meeting moving forward. The public can speak on any matter. Council may choose to comment after the entire public portion has concluded. Comments from the public will be both in-person and via Zoom.

ORDINANCE(S)

There are three (3) ordinances for Second Reading/Public Hearing:

 

Ordinance 2024-3 is an ordinance to establish a Cap Bank. This is done annually.

 

Ordinance 2024-4 is a bond ordinance providing appropriation of $800,000 for renovations to Firehouse No. 1 and authorize the issuance of $760,000 bonds or notes.

 

Ordinance 2024-5 is an ordinance to amend, revise, and supplement the Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) Schedule for members of Newton Town Volunteer First Aid Squad.

 

CONSENT AGENDA

If none of you have any items that you wish to pull from the Consent Agenda, the Mayor shall call for one roll call vote for all the Consent Agenda items. 

 

Resolution #83-2024* cancels appropriated reserve balance in the Federal and State Grant Fund – Municipal Alliance Grant in the amount of $116.73.

 

Resolution #84-2024* authorization to apply for a NJDCA grant to assist in repairing the Newton Roller Hockey Rink.

 

Resolution #85-2024* approves an initial application for Taxicab Driver’s License for Gavin Spicer.

 

Resolution #86-2024* approves a renewal application for Taxicab Driver’s License for Glenn T. Spicer.

 

Resolution #87-2024* approves a renewal application for Taxicab Owner’s License for Doragail Spicer t/a DADS Taxi & Limo.

 

Resolution #88-2024* approves a renewal application for Taxicab Driver’s License for Doragail Spicer.

 

Resolution #89-2024* approves a renewal application for a Junk Dealers License for Newton Auto Exchange.

 

Resolution #90-2024* approves a renewal application for a Junk Dealers License for George’s Salvage Company.

 

Resolution #91-2024* authorizes credits due a water and sewer utility account.

 

Resolution #92-2024* approves bills and vouchers for payment.

 

RESOLUTIONS

Resolution #82-2024 waives W/S fees for the First Aid Squad. This is done annually.

 

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Morris Lake is even with the top of the spillway.

 

Great progress is being made on our SEO Project and new Newton APP.

 

My thanks to everyone (especially Monica) who put in countless hours to make the budget process successful.
