Our next Town Council meeting is Monday, August 22nd at 7:00pm

The Morris Lake Reservoir was 8 inches below the top of the spillway on 8.8.11.

The successful efforts of the W/S and DPW crews continued on the Merriam Avenue Watermain project.  Our sincere thanks to all of them for their hard work.

Our new Court Administrator, Lucy DeLoreto, was sworn-in this week by the Honorable John Mulhern, JMC.  I look forward to Lucy’s many years of successful service with the Town of Newton and welcome her to our team!

The Neighborhood Health Services Fair/Reception was well attended this Thursday.

The basketball hoop (issue brought forth at the last Council meeting) that was illegally located on a municipal roadway was removed this week.

The plans for the future pool snack stand have been reviewed by the County Health Department.  I am confident we are almost ready to go out to bid.

Residents and businesses can now pay their utility bills online!  Check out the new functionality on the Town of Newton website,

We have been working on a contract with a vendor to provide clothing bins at Firehouse 1, Recycling Center and Park & Ride.  Proceeds ($450/month) will go to the maintenance and upkeep of the Fire Museum (including the successful open house program).  My thanks to Dan Finkle for his suggestions on this matter.

Katie’s House approached me this week about obtaining a property and single-family structure so they could manage an additional facility for developmentally challenged individuals.  I appreciate the efforts of Linda Roth in assisting me with the list of foreclosed properties owned by the Town.  Unfortunately, no properties really fit their needs other than perhaps the ones on Woodside Avenue.  I informed them of same and also advised them of possibilities in Andover and Byram.

Keith Mitchell is still coordinating the proper insurance for the new fire apparatus’ utilization at the Firemen’s Convention.  Currently the company does not have adequate coverage.  I will keep you posted as conditions warrant.

Enjoy your weekend!
