The Fire Department Wet Down is this Saturday at the VFW – the blessing of 804 by Rev. Brian Sullivan is at 3:30pm and the Wet Down commences at 4:00pm – see you then!

A reminder that tickets are now available for the annual GNCC Taste of Newton event, being held on Monday, September 12th.

Our next Town Council meeting is Wednesday, September 14th at 7:00pm

The Morris Lake Reservoir was 12 inches above the top of the spillway on 8.29.11.

My thanks to everyone who worked or volunteered during the Hurricane Irene weather event.  I appreciate the time and effort put in by everyone and I am grateful that the town did not suffer the extensive damages that were experienced elsewhere.

JCP&L is reporting that there are still 48 homes without power in town, down from about 300.  If you know of any resident or business without power in town, please make sure they have reported same to JCP&L.

We met this week to go over the plan amendment changes needed for the Merriam Gateway Redevelopment Plan.  I will keep you posted on our progress.

We met with Manor II Electric to go over the electrical work they will be performing for us in Lot #3 Western Plaza and in the alleyways.

Interviews are still ongoing for the Deputy Court Administrator position.

The paving and concrete projects are winding down.  Both Tilcon and Tony’s Concrete performed exceptional work for us this summer.

We will be shuffling some offices around in the next few weeks.  Our Tax Assessor, Scott, will be moving down to the old Fire Prevention office.  Our CFO, Dawn, will be coming upstairs to the 2nd floor.  And Finance (Ginny, Linda, Jacki, Carolyn) will see some offices and workstations being shuffled around.  The changes will enhance customer service for both internal and external customers.  Thank you to Deb Carter for her coordination of same and to the Finance Dept. and DPW who will be working hard to ensure a smooth transition with minimal service disruption.  I also want to welcome Jacki Shackleton aboard as our new full-time Utility Collector!

A reminder that the Newton Theatre re-opens next Friday at 8pm for Todd Rundgren!  I look forward to many years of success at our new performing arts center.

Enjoy the Holiday Weekend!
